About Us

Our History

Zaaiberg Dairy has its roots dating back to the 1950’s when Christian Klingenberg started milking Jerseys Cows for specifically cream, that was sold to NCD in Vryheid. Over the years it was no longer viable and only 10 cows were kept for rations on the farm. Christo grew up on the farm Zaaiplaats and returned in the early 1990’s and saw the potential of selling milk to the local market and registered the herd as Zaaiberg Jerseys in 1994. Genetics were of fundamental importants from the beginning and hence we now have a herd that is top rated in South Africa.

As the demand grew, his wife Marlene saw the need to process the milk and attended a cheese making course at Irene with the legendary Ina Jordaan and Hans Keller. Very inspired by what she learned the Zaaiberg Dairy factory started to take shape. Today the factory is processing a variety of products including cream cheese, yoghurts, amasi, fresh milk and managed by very knowledgable and dedicated staff. Our latest addition is the Barista Milk, that is being enjoyed in numerous coffee shops in Gauteng. We are truly proud of our South African Farming Story and hope to keep up the commitment, for the generations to follow.

Zaaiberg Jersey cows are inseminated mainly from bulls originating from the USA and from Canada.

Our Certifications

The Zaaiberg Dairy factory is situated on the farm, which is home to the Zaaiberg Jerseys Herd.
This is an ideal situation as the milk doesn’t travel in tankers. The milk is tested and then pumped directly into the factory for processing.
Our factory is FSA compliant and this ensures our factory maintains the highest health, safety and quality standard when processing, packaging and distributing our quality dairy products. Our team is well aquainted with what is expected of them.
We are furthermore Halaal certified and hold a No. R638 of 22 June 2018 certificate For copies of our certificates, please send enquiry to marlene@zaaiberg.co.za.
